About the musician

I started playing the cello in 6th grade at the new (at that time) Rock Canyon Elementary School with John G. Hilgendorf directing our string orchestra.  I studied briefly with Owen Bingham, ? Lacy, Richard Marsden and Nina Wallenberg.  I was never very dedicated and my instruction always seemed disrupted by outside forces but I was able to participate in Farrer Jr. High and Provo High School orchestras.  I played briefly in the Mormon Youth Symphony before my LDS church mission to Australia and then auditioned for the Utah Valley Symphony in 1994 and Clyn Barrus generously allowed me into the group.  I retired from a career in physical therapy in 2019 and have enjoyed golfing, ham radio, various building projects and working on a long honey-do list!  Playing in the symphony has been a great joy to me and I wish I had applied myself to a greater degree when I was younger.
